ABOUT THE ASSIGNMENT

Working for Save the Children means making a difference. As an employee at Save the Children, you know that your work contributes to making the world a better place for children and young people, surrounded by dedicated colleagues who share common values. With us, you have the opportunity to both develop and be challenged.

Save the Children and Umeå Municipality have an established collaboration to create a good reception for families seeking protection in Sweden under the mass influx directive. Together with employees from the municipality, Save the Children, and volunteers from Save the Children's membership movement, a project is being run that provides parental support, youth groups, movement-based activities for children, and other activities to help the target group feel like part of the community in Umeå.

The operation is in its third project year, and we are now looking for a project manager with activity leader responsibilities who can lead the project and the team in fulfilling the plan and goals described in the application, as well as staffing the project's activities. The team includes another activity leader from Save the Children and a resource from Umeå Municipality.

At the office in Umeå where you will be based, you will also meet other colleagues at Save the Children who work with other target groups and in other operations/projects.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role is divided between project managing the team and driving activities within the framework of the project's methods and goals. As an activity leader, you will drive parental support and youth groups together with the municipality, as well as plan holiday activities and excursions together with volunteers from Save the Children. As a project manager, you will lead and support the project with a focus on goals, collaboration, and the needs of the target group, which should lead to good quality and increased efficiency in the project.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring project results

  • Establishing structure in the project, including support in scheduling activities

  • Collaborating with Umeå Municipality and other external actors

  • Collaborating with Save the Children's local association in Umeå

  • Leading the project group in weekly planning meetings

  • Communicating processes and identified needs with your immediate supervisor

  • Ensuring that the project follows Save the Children's policies and methods

  • Planning content and executing activities directly with the target group

You are expected to be able to manage your time independently in relation to the project team, the needs of the target group, and other partners in the project. The project team will meet at fixed times each week for planning meetings, and the basic activities will take place on fixed evenings each week.

ARE YOU OUR NEW COLLEAGUE?

To succeed in this role, we see that you, as a candidate, have the following qualifications:

  • Relevant education or equivalent experience obtained in another way within social and/or community studies

  • Experience in coordinating and leading activities and/or projects

  • Knowledge of the living conditions of children and young people in migration

  • Familiarity with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and rights-based work

  • Very good Swedish in speech and writing

  • Administrative experience and good knowledge of Office programs

If you also have the following, we see it as meritorious but not required:

  • Project management training or documented experience in project management

  • Training or work experience in parental support methods

  • Experience in collaboration with/in the municipality

  • Language skills in Ukrainian and/or Russian

  • Good knowledge of communication channels in social media

  • Knowledge of or experience working in civil society/associations

As a person, you have a humble approach in your collaboration with others and act as part of the team, including others. You have an understanding of others' conditions, listen, and show consideration. At the same time, you are confident and dare to stand up for Save the Children's values and have the ability to distinguish between issues and individuals. You need to be structured and lead the team in a solution-oriented manner with a focus on achieving the best for the target group and the project's goals.

In the operation, children and young people need a safe adult who can switch between play and comfort to create transitions through content issues based on the needs and conditions of the children.
